Hołownia Abandons Poland 2050 Meeting After Votes Go Against Him

Hołownia logged out of Poland 2050’s national council meeting after realizing votes were not going his way, sources say.

Poland 2050 National Council Meeting Halted

The National Council of Poland 2050 announced a break in meetings until Monday at 6:00 PM, MP Marcin Skonieczka of this party informed. As he conveyed on the X platform, on Friday’s Council meeting, 7 out of 11 agenda items were addressed, including the selection of a member of the National Electoral Commission and a member of the National Revision Commission.

A decision was also made that the National Council will consider protests regarding the elections. According to findings by TVN24+ journalist Patryk Michalski, Friday’s (January 16) council meeting concluded “in a stormy atmosphere.”

“Emotional Blackmail” by Former Marshal

The National Council of Poland 2050 was scheduled to decide Friday evening on the next steps regarding the party leadership elections. Their second round, which took place on Monday, was invalidated due to a technical error. The party leadership must decide whether to conduct the party leadership elections from scratch or to repeat only the second round.

Hołownia had declared at the beginning of the meeting that he supports repeating the entire elections and is willing to run for party leadership again. The current leader would like Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska to be on the organization’s board and had suggested that if this doesn’t happen, “he is willing to leave, because he doesn’t see himself in Poland 2050, only in Pełczyńska-Nałęcz or Hennig-Kloski” – reports TVN24.

Hołownia “Logged Out of the Meeting”

“Szymon Hołownia logged out of the meeting after 23:00” – we read. The station cites a conversation with two sources within the party. Hołownia was said to have stated that he was tired, and handed over the chairmanship to Agnieszka Buczyńska, who in turn announced a break and also logged out.

However, according to some politicians in the group, the break may be illegal because earlier motions were not considered, including those regarding the board’s tenure. “Our sources have conveyed that Hołownia’s logout effectively broke up the National Council meeting” – writes TVN24 and adds: “This was to happen when the former Marshal of the Sejm realized that the votes on some issues were not going his way – we hear.”

“Within the Applicable Regulations”

Buczyńska published a statement on X from Friday night to Saturday. “In accordance with the Regulations of the National Council, and more specifically paragraph 12, the Chairman of the National Council has the right to transfer the chairmanship of the meeting to a person designated by them, as well as to announce a break in the meeting at any time during its course” – wrote, among other things.

“I emphasize that the announcement of the break was within the boundaries of the applicable regulations and was a fully authorized, rational, and responsible action” – she added at the end.

Elections in Poland 2050

In the second round of the invalidated elections in Poland 2050, minister of funds Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and minister of climate Paulina Hennig-Kloska faced off. The voting was invalidated due to a technical error that prevented vote counting.

The party leadership suggested that external interference might have occurred, which is why they filed a report with the prosecutor’s office and ABW.
