Poland 2050 founder Szymon Hołownia reveals he considered canceling party elections amid internal power struggle accusations.
Hołownia Considered Invalidating Elections
In response to questions, Szymon Hołownia admitted he considered invalidating the internal party elections. Initially, as he recalled, he had resigned from running for re-election.
“I am being accused by some within the movement that I have some wild desire for power, but I want to remind everyone that the whole problem is that I didn’t want this power,” Hołownia told Gazeta.pl.
Campaign Going in Wrong Direction
Later, Hołownia noticed the campaign was going in the wrong direction, deepening internal divisions. He suggested stopping the process.
“At the moment I saw how this campaign was ending, I said: have you really thought this through? It’s going in the wrong direction and perhaps we need to stop this process. Maybe we need to take a step back for a moment?”
“We analyzed very different scenarios in many groups,” admitted the founder and former leader of Poland 2050.
Poland 2050 Elections
Elections for the chairman of Poland 2050 took place on January 10. Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz received 277 votes, Paulina Hennig-Kloska – 131, Joanna Mucha – 119, Ryszard Petru – 95, and Rafał Kasprzyk – 34.
No candidate achieved the required majority, so a second round was scheduled for January 12. Based on the results, Hennig-Kloska and Pełczyńska-Nałęcz qualified.
During the voting, technical problems occurred, raising suspicions in the party that there might have been an external attempt to interfere with the internal electoral process.
