Poland’s Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia appeared before the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office on July 29, amid a hearing over his alleged ‘state coup’ remarks, with the Constitutional Court president and an Ordo Iuris adviser present.
Hołownia Appears at Prosecutor’s Office
Szymon Hołownia, the Sejm’s Marshal, was present at the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office as a witness regarding his comments about a “state coup”.
Remarks on “State Coup”
On late July, on Polsat News, Hołownia said that “multiple proposals were made for a state coup”, describing a situation where a newly elected president might be un-sworn. He characterized the incident as a state coup despite noting it may not meet legal criteria.
Legal Representation and Court Officials
Present were Constitutional Court President Bogdan Święczkowski and the representative of the National Council of the Judiciary, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, associated with Ordo Iuris. The prosecutor allowed KRS representation, giving Lewandowski the chance to ask questions, while the court president will also be able to query Hołownia. The prosecutor warned that the hearing will be very long.
Upcoming Hearing
On July 29, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba announced that Hołownia would be examined within the next days or weeks. The inquiry will not disrupt parliamentary work, and authorities are keen to learn what the marshal might say about incitement to a potential coup attempt.
