Former Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia engages in Facebook dispute with critics over political decisions and party leadership.
10th Wedding Anniversary Post
On Friday, Szymon Hołownia posted on Facebook regarding the 10th anniversary of his wedding to Urszula Brzezińska. “What a coincidence that today Ula is ending her active military service, while I – am becoming the chairman of the party I founded. We are heading into new, unknown territory. Hand in hand. Slightly stressed but calm, because even if there’s something around the corner, even if there isn’t – we have each other,” he wrote.
User Reactions and Hołownia’s Responses
Under Hołownia’s post, there were nearly a thousand comments. Many Facebook users criticized the former Marshal of the Sejm for his political decisions. Hołownia decided to respond to some posts.
One user asked for a recount of votes cast in the second round of presidential elections and a meeting with Adam Bielan. “And you continue in your virtual world, where Trzaskowski is president,” Hołownia replied.
In another post, under a user’s comment, he wrote: “We owe voters to Nawrocki, and I will meet with Kaczyński as many times as I need to (without forming a coalition with him).” “Your PO-ish, sectarian mentality is terrifying. You are no different from PiS propaganda, just in the opposite direction. A fascinating phenomenon,” he stated.
To another user who advised the politician to “take five of your deputies” and “go to Kukiz for a donkey’s ear in the Sejm,” Hołownia replied: “I will keep my fingers crossed for you, because it won’t be easy to detox you from Onet propaganda.”
Defense Against Bridge-Burning Accusation
Another user pointed out to Hołownia that his “all ripostes” in response to internet comments are “burning all bridges behind him politically.”
“Please allow me, a happy political retiree, to run my profile in a way I deem appropriate. I have always commented this way, and I will continue to react this way,” Hołownia replied. “In my opinion – I was silent for too long, I restrained myself ‘for the good’ and allowed myself to be told various things (such as that the Marshal of the Sejm should be ashamed for talking to the head of 195 deputies, or for swearing in the legally elected President of the Republic of Poland),” he added.
Upcoming Poland 2050 Leadership Election
This coming Saturday, a new chairman of Poland 2050 is to be elected. The runoff between Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska will take place. The second round of elections will again be conducted via internet voting.
The candidates assure that this time the voting will proceed without problems and its result will be presented. Szymon Hołownia a few days ago did not rule out leaving the party with a group of several dozen deputies.
In his opinion, to prevent a split in Poland 2050 after these elections, the entire electoral procedure should be repeated from scratch or both candidates should be given the position of co-chair.
