Poland 2050 leader Hołownia abruptly left meetings after votes didn’t go his way, sources report.
Poland 2050 National Council Meetings Halted
The National Council of Poland 2050 announced a break in meetings until Monday at 6:00 PM, according to party MP Marcin Skonieczka. According to a post on X, on Friday’s council meeting, 7 out of 11 agenda items were completed, including the election of a member of the National Electoral Commission and a member of the National Revision Commission.
A decision was also made to consider protests regarding the elections.
Former Marshal’s ‘Emotional Blackmail’
The Poland 2050 National Council was scheduled to decide Friday evening on the next steps regarding the election of the party chairman. The second round, which took place on Monday, was invalidated due to a technical error. Party authorities must decide whether to hold the chairman’s elections from scratch or to repeat only the second round.
Hołownia had declared at the beginning of the meetings that he favored repeating the entire elections and was willing to run for party leadership again. The current leader reportedly wanted Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska to be in the organization’s board and suggested that if this doesn’t happen, “he is willing to leave because he doesn’t see himself in Poland 2050 only with Pełczyńska Nałęcz or Hennig-Kloska” – reports TVN24. Some party members reportedly considered such an approach “emotional blackmail.”
Hołownia “Logged Out of Meetings”
“Szymon Hołownia logged out of meetings after 23:00” – we read. The station refers to a conversation with two sources in the party. Hołownia reportedly said he was tired and handed over the chairmanship to Agnieszka Buczyńska, who in turn announced a break and also logged out.
However, according to some politicians in the group, the break may be illegal because earlier requests, including those regarding the board’s term of office, were not considered. “Our sources have reported that Hołownia’s logout effectively terminated the National Council session” – writes TVN24 and adds: “This was supposed to happen when the former Marshal of the Sejm realized that the votes on some issues were not going his way – we hear.”
“Within the Rules”
Buczyńska published a statement on X from Friday night to Saturday night. “In accordance with the National Council Regulations, and more specifically paragraph 12, the Chairman of the National Council has the right to transfer the conduct of the session to a person designated by himself, as well as to announce a break in the proceedings at any point during their duration” – wrote, among other things.
“I emphasize that the announcement of the break was within the bounds of current regulations and was a fully entitled, rational, and responsible action” – she added at the end.
Poland 2050 Elections
In the invalidated second round of elections in Poland 2050, two ministers faced off: funds minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and climate minister Paulina Hennig-Kłoska. The voting was invalidated due to a technical error that prevented vote counting.
Party authorities suggest that external interference may have occurred, which is why they filed a report with the prosecutor’s office and ABW.
