Hołownia Eyes Vatican Role; It Might Be a Good Solution for Everyone

Polish political leader Szymon Hołownia is reportedly considering appointments as a Vatican ambassador or UN High Commissioner for Refugees, sparking speculation about his future roles.

Potential Vatican Appointment

On TVN24’s “W kuluarach,” journalists Maja Wójcikowska, Radomir Wit, and Maciej Warsiński reported that officials are discussing a new scenario in which Hołownia could serve as an ambassador to the Vatican alongside the Pope.

Wójcikowska said she had heard at least one politician say that a Vatican role could be a good solution for everyone, that the president might approve, and that Hołownia’s strong ties to the president would make the post attractive.

She also noted that an international career, for instance a diplomatic post, has been considered as a likely fit for him.

UN High Commissioner Bid

In November, Hołownia will be succeeded as Marshal of the Sejm by Wład Czarzasty, and before that he filed an application for the position of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The move follows his earlier withdrawal from the race to become leader of his party, which he said was a time to “hand over the baton” in the political relay.

The new party leader for Poland 2050 will be chosen in January, according to his statements.

Sejm Leadership Transition

The planned personnel change comes as Hołownia prepares to step down as head of the Sejm and as he moves to pursue higher international responsibilities.

Czarzasty, formerly Deputy Speaker, is set to take over the marshal’s chair in November, while the party’s leadership will be re‑elected in early 2025.

Hołowni’s Own Comments

In a recent social‑media post, Hołownia highlighted how significant a UN post would be for Poland and the wider region, noting that no Polish man has yet held the position.

He admitted that the odds appear low but praised the possibility of trying again to focus on universal languages such as bread, first aid, hugs, and hope across different cultures.

He expressed personal motivation, stating that after a long ordeal he feels ready to try again.
