Hołownia Logged Out of Poland 2050 Meetings After Votes Went Against Him

Poland 2050’s National Council suspended meetings after leader Szymon Hołownia unexpectedly departed amid disagreements on leadership elections.

Poland 2050 National Council Meetings Suspended

Poland 2050’s National Council announced a suspension of meetings until Monday at 18:00, MP Marcin Skonieczka reported. At Friday’s council meeting, 7 out of 11 agenda items were addressed, including elections to the National Electoral Commission and National Revision Commission. The council will also consider protests regarding the party leadership election. Friday’s (January 16) council meetings concluded in “a turbulent atmosphere,” according to TVN24+ journalist Patryk Michalski.

Former Leader’s “Emotional Blackmail” Claims

The National Council was expected to decide Friday evening how to proceed with party leadership elections. The second round held on Monday was invalidated due to a technical error. Party leadership must decide whether to restart elections entirely or only repeat the second round. Hołownia initially declared support for repeating the entire elections and willingness to run again. He reportedly suggested that if Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska aren’t included in the leadership board, “he is willing to leave because he doesn’t see himself in Poland 2050 without them.” Some party members reportedly saw this as “emotional blackmail.”

Hołownia “Logged Out of Meetings”

Szymon Hołownia logged out of the meetings after 23:00, according to sources cited by TVN24+. Hołownia reportedly stated he was tired and handed leadership to Agnieszka Buczyńska, who then announced the break and also logged out. Some politicians believe the break may be illegal as earlier requests, including those about the board’s term, were not considered. TVN24+ reports that “Hołownia’s logging out effectively broke up the National Council meeting,” adding that this occurred after the former Marshal “realized that the voting on certain issues was not going his way.”

Within the Bounds of Existing Regulations

Buczyńska published a statement on X overnight from Friday to Saturday, asserting that “according to the National Council’s Regulations, specifically paragraph 12, the Chairman has the right to transfer meeting leadership and announce breaks at any time.” She emphasized that “the announcement of the break was within the bounds of existing regulations and was a fully authorized, rational and responsible action.”

Elections in Poland 2050

In the second round of invalidated elections in Poland 2050, ministers Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz (funds) and Paulina Hennig-Kloska (climate) competed. The voting was invalidated due to a technical error that prevented vote counting. Party leadership suggests possible external interference and has filed a report with the prosecutor’s office and ABW.
