Hołownia Set for Lengthy Prosecutor Interrogation

Former Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, will be questioned by the Warsaw district prosecutor on October 10, a hearing that officials say could last many hours and may require additional dates.

Interrogation Schedule and Length

The Warsaw district prosecutor’s office has warned that the questioning of Hołownia may extend over many hours. The main hearing is planned for October 10 and scheduled to last ten hours.

If a large number of questions arise, the prosecutor said that further dates might be necessary. Representatives of the National Council of Judges and the Constitutional Tribunal, who had previously submitted notifications, will also attend the proceedings.

Hołowni’s “State Plot” Comments Trigger Investigation

Hołownia’s remarks in July, in which he said that repeated suggestions were made to delay the inauguration of President Karol Nawrocki, prompted an inquiry. He described those suggestions as a potential “state plot”, though he added that the phrase was used in a political and not criminal sense.

The statement led to a notification filed by a National Council of Judges proxy, vice‑president Bartosz Lewandowski, which was then forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Case Traced Back to Early‑Year Investigation

The probe that now incorporates Hołowni’s comments was initiated at the beginning of the year by Deputy Attorney General Michał Ostrowski, following a notification from Constitutional Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski.

The original document alleged that senior state officials—including the Prime Minister, parliamentary marshals, and cabinet ministers—had acted in a “criminal gang” to change the country’s constitutional order and weaken the Constitutional Tribunal and the National Council of Judges, beginning on December 13, 2023.
