Huawei Announces 20 Semifinalists in Agritech Startup Challenge

Huawei Poland has selected 20 promising startups for the semifinals of its fifth annual Startup Challenge, focused on agricultural innovation.

Huawei Startup Challenge V: Semifinalists Selected

The jury of the Huawei Startup Challenge V has chosen 20 of the most promising startups to advance to the next stage of the program’s anniversary edition. This year’s edition, running under the hashtag #TechForAgrinnovation, focuses on innovative solutions supporting the transformation of the agri-food sector.

About the Huawei Startup Challenge

Huawei Startup Challenge is a nationwide initiative aimed at young technology companies creating solutions to real economic and social challenges. For five years, the program has connected startups with mentors, experts, and business partners, supporting them in the development, testing, and scaling of high-potential technologies. This year, the main area of interest is projects from the agritech and modern food production sectors.

Semifinalist Startups

The following startups have qualified for the semi-finals: Agrobots sp. z o.o., Agro Contracts sp. z o.o., Bhumi, Biostra, Cropler sp. z o.o., Deepflare, FibriTech sp. z o.o., Hermetia Systems, Intelligent Hives sp. z o.o., Luna Scientific, MXM Sorting sp. z o.o., Nanosci, Nirby, Osmia Future sp. z o. o., Owl Sentry, PeptechLab, PloniQ, Projekt Gizmo, ScanSpectrum, and Sniphi Cyfrowy Nos.

Industry Response

Ryszard Hordyński, Director of Strategy and Communication at Huawei Poland, stated that this year’s edition confirmed the correct decision to focus on the agri-food sector, noting a record number of submissions and their maturity. Startups accurately identified challenges facing agriculture and food production, from climate pressure to resource efficiency and food security, with many solutions having real-world implementation potential.

Technologies in Focus

The semi-finalists are developing projects utilizing artificial intelligence, data analytics, sensors, and IoT for monitoring crops, soil, raw material quality, and food storage conditions. Some startups are developing solutions based on satellite data, imaging, and automated agronomic decision-making, while others focus on precision management of fertilization, irrigation, and plant protection, as well as early detection of threats to yields and production quality.

Robotics and Sustainable Solutions

The semi-finalists are also developing technologies in robotics, automation, and digitization of processes in farms and throughout the food supply chain – from harvesting, monitoring, and sorting crops, to managing deliveries and reducing post-harvest losses. Innovations at the intersection of biotechnology, foodtech, and the circular economy are also represented, including solutions supporting pollination, production of biologically safe agricultural inputs, development of hydroponic and aquaponic crops, and technologies processing organic waste into fertilizers, substrates, feed, or other value-added products.

Youth Business Poland Perspective

Adrian Migoń, CEO of Youth Business Poland, noted that Polish agritech startups are at a more advanced stage of development than in previous years, with many projects being technologically refined solutions with real implementation and scaling potential. This has raised the bar for selection, requiring careful evaluation of both technology and business readiness.

Next Steps and Prizes

The next stage of the competition will involve a challenge from Huawei, where semi-finalists will develop and present solutions to a specific problem identified by the organizer. This will result in the selection of ten finalists. The winners of the Huawei Startup Challenge V will receive a total of 300,000 PLN in prizes: 150,000 PLN for first place, 100,000 PLN for second place, and 50,000 PLN for third place. The winners will be announced at the final gala.
