Human Remains Found in Szczecinek; Manslaughter Investigation Launched

A fisherman discovered a human skull and skeletal remains near ponds on Narutowicza Street in Szczecinek, Poland, on April 6th, prompting a police investigation.

Human Remains Discovered

On Monday, April 6th, a fisherman found a human skull at ponds located on Narutowicza Street in Szczecinek, West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Police were called to the scene and secured additional skeletal elements.

Extent of Remains

According to Ewa Dziadczyk, spokesperson for the Koszalin District Prosecutor’s Office, “almost the entire skeleton” was found at the location, including long bones and a pelvis. Fragments of clothing, including socks and underwear, were also discovered.

Exclusion of Historical Origins

Investigators have determined that the area where the remains were found was not previously a cemetery. The prosecutor’s office has also ruled out that the remains date back to World War II. Currently, efforts are underway to identify the remains, which are preliminarily identified as belonging to a male.

Manslaughter Investigation

The circumstances surrounding the death will be the subject of an investigation conducted in the direction of unintentional manslaughter, stated the spokesperson. The case is being supervised by the Szczecinek District Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigation and Revitalization Work

Law enforcement officials are gathering evidence at the scene. Revitalization work at the ponds on Narutowicza Street has been suspended until the evidence collection is complete.
