Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto exchange sharp criticisms amid Hungary’s upcoming elections.
Hungarian Diplomat Responds to Sikorski
In an interview with the Hungarian portal 444.hu, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski sharply criticized not only Zbigniew Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski but also Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whom he called among other things a “corrupted nationalist.”
The Hungarian counterpart to Sikorski did not hold back. In a short video published on social media, Peter Szijjarto stated that the Polish minister is a fanatic and pro-war representative of George Soros. According to Szijjarto, Sikorski was preparing European opinion to explain the future defeat of the opposition party Tisza in the Hungarian spring elections.
Parliamentary Elections in Hungary
The head of Hungarian diplomacy this time did not mention Zbigniew Ziobro or Marcin Romanowski at all, who were granted political asylum across the Danube. It was pointed out clearly that for Hungarian politicians, the election campaign is the most important. Parliamentary elections in Hungary will take place on April 12.
For over half a year, it had been known that President Tamas Sulyok set the date of the vote specifically for April 12. Independent commentators emphasize that the leader showed a bit of independence with this decision towards the actual center of power – Viktor Orbán. The ruling Fidesz party, uninterrupted for sixteen years, has after years of hegemony finally found a clear rival in the Tisza party of Peter Magyar. Most polls indicate that this opposition group currently has the highest support among Hungarians.
