Hurricane Humberto Gears Up for Western Europe, Season’s Strongest Atlantic Storm

Hurricane Humberto is set to hit Finland, Norway and the UK by Saturday, bringing record winds and up to 100 mm of rain to some regions.

Humberto Targets Finland and Norway

According to Finland’s Meteorological Institute (FMI), a deep low pressure system will reach Finland Saturday evening. Gale‑force winds are forecast over the western part of the country and the Åland Islands, and by Sunday gusts could spread further north.

Strong Winds Expected Across Scandinavia

FMI issued yellow wind warnings across most of Finland, citing potential local damage. On land gusts may cause isolated damage, while sea conditions in the Gulf of Botnia and the northern Baltic could reach storm‑force strength, FMI marine specialist Anni Jokiniemi says.

Norway Prepares for Heavy Rainfall

Norwegian forecasters warn that within 12 hours Hummerto could deliver up to 100 mm of rain in some areas. The weather is expected to intensify rapidly after a calm start Saturday, with rain arriving from the west and wind increasing.

Ireland and UK Brace for Extreme Conditions

Both countries have issued yellow or red warnings for strong winds. Meteorologists forecast gusts and deluges that could cause local flooding, as the storm cuts through the region.

Two Hurricanes Swirl in Fujiwhara Effect

Humberto and Imelda are currently rotating around each other, a Fujiwhara interaction. By Saturday, their remnants will merge into extratropical cyclones aimed at Western Europe, delivering high waves and violent winds to Ireland and Scotland on Friday.
