Meeting About Cooperation Turns into Brawl
The newly elected mayor of Duszniki‑Zdrój, Urszula Karpowicz, invited councilor Jarosław Kwolek to discuss municipal cooperation on Wednesday, 29 October. The meeting in a local restaurant escalated into a fight that involved third parties and was recorded on security footage.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene after the altercation. Neither Karpowicz nor Kwolek has yet filed an official complaint.
Two Versions of the Incident
Councilor Kwolek says he was attacked by the mayor while trying to retrieve his budget‑proposal notes and claims to have received a right‑hand fork in the jaw. He cites the security footage to support his claim.
Karpowicz counters that she was assaulted by Kwolek, who grabbed a bag where she had hidden a note. She states she suffered a spinal injury during the struggle and that the mayor used a bag to force the note out.
Case Goes to Law Enforcement
Although police were present, no formal report has been filed by either party. The young police officer who responded, Tobiasz Fąfara, said both sides presented their own narratives, alleging the other provoked the fight. Both Karpowicz and Kwolek plan to resolve the matter in court, while the mayor’s inauguration is scheduled for 7 November despite her being on medical leave.
