In October 2025, the Siedlce prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into an illegal private care home in Łazy, Łochów, where a 92‑year‑old resident was seriously injured and psychotropic drugs were administered without medical indication.
Investigation Initiated in October 2025
The Siedlce District Prosecutor’s Office began examining alleged irregularities at a privately run social assistance home in Łazy (gmina Łochów) after a relative of a 92‑year‑old pensioner reported the case. The prosecutor’s office stated that the investigation was triggered by a complaint filed by the relative.
92‑Year‑Old Resident Sustained Serious Injuries
According to preliminary findings, the 92‑year‑old woman suffered severe bodily harm under circumstances that are still being investigated. The alleged operators of the facility failed to summon medical help and reportedly administered psychotropic medications without any medical indication.
Unlicensed Operation by Daniel Ś. and Małgorzata Ś.
The investigation found that the Łazy facility was managed by 37‑year‑old Daniel Ś. and 58‑year‑old Małgorzata Ś., operating without the required formal licences, including the absence of a voivodeship governor’s permission. The centre occupied rented premises owned by 68‑year‑old Ryszard W.
Residents Displaced to Małgorzata Ś.’s Home
Following the discovery of irregularities, all operational items were removed from the premises, including residents’ personal belongings and food. Sixteen residents were taken to Małgorzata Ś.’s house in a village in Włodzimierz County. Police intervened and provided immediate medical assistance after the residents’ presence was revealed.
Charges Against Operators and Property Owner
Prosecutors charged Daniel Ś. and Małgorzata Ś. with operating an unlicensed private care home, accepting a 92‑year‑old woman without proper supervision, failing to provide medical assistance, and administering psychotropic drugs without justification—actions that endanger the victim’s life or health. The defendants face up to five years’ imprisonment.
Ryszard W., the property owner, was also charged with obstructing the investigation by concealing the operation’s existence and aiding the removal of residents, an offence punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.
Current Legal Proceedings
The Węgrowo District Court granted a temporary detention of three months to Daniel and Małgorzata Ś., while Ryszard W. was subject to police supervision and a financial guarantee. The prosecutor stated that the investigation remains in its preliminary phase, with further procedural actions planned to establish all circumstances, including the conditions leading to the victim’s injuries and whether the conduct exposed other residents to immediate danger.
