Drivers Engaged in High-Speed Chase
On Saturday evening, March 22nd, officers from the Mława County Police Traffic Department stopped two drivers engaged in an illegal race on the S7 expressway. The drivers, operating an Audi and a Skoda, occupied both lanes of traffic, racing and exceeding the speed limit by 80 km/h.
Their actions posed a real threat to other road users.
Identities of the Drivers
The Audi was driven by a 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen residing in the Mława County. The Skoda was driven by a 23-year-old Ukrainian citizen, also living in the Mława County.
Investigators determined that the Skoda driver had recently purchased the vehicle and decided to test its capabilities by racing a colleague in the Audi on the return journey.
Legal Consequences of Illegal Racing
Both men have been charged with participating in an illegal road race. According to Article 178c § 1 of the Penal Code, anyone who organizes, conducts, or participates in an illegal vehicle race faces a prison sentence of 3 months to 5 years.
Attempting to commit such an act is also punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
Further Penalties and Warnings
The perpetrators may also face further legal consequences, including the loss of their driver’s license, driving bans, high legal costs, and more severe criminal liability if their actions were to cause an accident.
Authorities appeal to drivers to exercise common sense and responsibility. Public roads are not a place for competition or testing vehicle capabilities.
Excessive speed and recklessness behind the wheel can lead to tragedy. Every case of illegal racing will be decisively eliminated.
