The FBI has arrested a man suspected of planting pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic party headquarters in Washington, D.C., a day before the January 6 Capitol riot.
BOMB PLANTING SCHEME
The FBI arrested a man alleged to have laid two pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic Party headquarters on the night before January 6. The devices were set with a countdown timer but failed to detonate; they were subsequently rendered harmless. Authorities launched a broad search for the alleged perpetrator and offered a $500 000 reward, publishing detailed maps, photographs, and footage.
JANUARY 6 RIOT
On January 6, 2021, thousands of Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol to block the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory, responding to Trump’s claim of election fraud. At least 130 police officers were wounded. In early 2021, the Trump administration granted clemency or sentence reductions to about 1,500 individuals connected with the attack and directed the Department of Justice to dismiss all pending cases against remaining suspects.
