On Saturday, the Intercity train “Bachus” was traveling through Nowa Wieś Wielka, close to Bydgoszcz. While the crossing’s barriers were raised, the train passed between two cars that had already entered the crossing. No vehicle entered the tracks, preventing a potential tragedy. A video of the event later appeared on X.

Local Gmina Head Demands Investigation, Highlights Repeat Incidents

Gmina official Zbigniew Wiśniewski explained that drivers and passengers effectively received a signal that allowed them to enter the crossing. He credited the train driver’s immediate braking and warning signals, as well as the drivers’ correct behaviour, for averting a disaster. Wiśniewski called on PKP PLK for clarification and noted that similar incidents in recent years demonstrate serious neglect in railway maintenance, supervision, and safety.

PKP PLK Attributes Fault to Railway Staff, Calls for Commission

PKP PLK representative Katarzyna Dobrut‑Michalska said the incident was caused by a railway employee. Investigations are ongoing, and a commission has been appointed to determine the exact sequence of events and to devise preventive measures. Police involvement is also noted.
