On Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 11:50 PM in Gostynin County, a 33-year-old driver of a Seat car, Robert K., was apprehended after a police chase.
Legal Charges
The man had 2 permille of alcohol in his blood and was driving despite a court ban. Police charged him under Art. 178a § 4 of the Penal Code in conjunction with Art. 178b of the Penal Code in connection with Art. 11 § 2 of the Penal Code. This is not his first offense; he previously drove while intoxicated in May 2023.
Expedited Legal Process
After the man’s arrest, the police expedited the case, requesting a conviction without a trial. Prosecutor Bartosz Maliszewski stated this was due to the perpetrator being caught in the act and showing blatant disregard for the law. After documents were approved, the verdict was issued in the District Court in Gostynin on January 27, 2026 – just 48 hours after the arrest.
Court Verdict
The court imposed a 1-year prison sentence, a 10,000 PLN monetary penalty, forfeiture of the vehicle’s value (3,000 PLN), and a lifetime ban on operating any mechanical vehicles. The verdict became final on January 31, 2026.
