Investigation into President Karol Nawrocki’s Acquisition of Jerzy’s Apartment Continues

Polish presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki’s visit to former tenant Jerzy Ż. in a Gdańsk social‑services home has sparked an ongoing probe into a contested apartment sale.

President Nawrocki Visits Former Tenant

President Karol Nawrocki visited Jerzy Ż. at the Gdańsk Social Assistance Center. The former tenant was the owner of an apartment later claimed by Nawrocki.

Investigations into Transfer of Ownership Continue

The Gdańsk Central District Prosecutor’s Office is still reviewing whether Jerzy was deceived during the property transfer. Expert witnesses in palliative medicine were called to assess Jerzy’s fitness for questioning.

Background of the Apartment and Legal Claims

During a pre‑presidential debate, Nawrocki said he owned a single‑room apartment in Gdańsk. Reports confirm he also possessed the flat. In 2012 he and Jerzy signed a contract to buy the apartment for 120,000 PLN, with final sale concluded in 2017.

Nawrocki’s Statements About Support and Sale

At a press conference, Nawrocki claimed he had long supported Jerzy despite personal hardships. He said he legally acquired the 28‑m² apartment and paid Jerzy over 14 years, maintaining the sale contract.

Documented Commitment to Care for Jerzy

In 2021, Nawrocki recorded a pledge to provide lifelong care to Jerzy, supplying food, clothing, utilities, and medical support at the Gdańsk apartment. He later chose to donate the flat for charity before the election.

Media Appearances and Additional Revelations

In a YouTube interview, Nawrocki described meeting Jerzy in 2008, helping him through alcoholism, and that Jerzy, fearing imprisonment, urged the sale of the apartment. Nawrocki said after becoming IPN head in 2021 he had periods of no contact yet visited him during holidays.
