Prosecutors, police, and building inspectors met on June 2, 2026, to coordinate the site investigation and safety assessment of the burned market hall on Rembielińskiego Street in Płock.

Coordinating the Site Inspection

On June 2, 2026, prosecutors from the 1st Investigative Division of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Płock met with police, firefighters, and County Construction Supervision Inspectorate officials. The meeting aimed to determine a timeline for inspecting the fire-damaged hall.

Fire services and building inspectors must first verify if the site is structurally sound and safe for investigative teams to enter.

Evidence Gathering and Investigative Scope

Detailed, sector-by-sector inspections of the scene will follow once safety is confirmed. Authorities are currently securing local surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and conducting preliminary assessments of the building using drone technology. Technical and architectural documentation has also been seized.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 163, Paragraph 1, Point 1 and Paragraph 2 of the Penal Code, concerning the unintentional causing of a fire that threatens lives, health, or large-scale property. This offense carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years, according to Bartosz Maliszewski, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office.
