On Tuesday, 28 October, the IPN Collegium chose Dr. hab. Karol Polejowski, the institute’s current deputy director, to succeed former president Karol Nawrocki as head of the Institute of National Remembrance.
IPN Collegium Selects a New President
On 28 October, the IPN Collegium conducted hearings with candidates for the presidency of the Institute of National Remembrance. After interviewing nine candidates, the Collegium selected Dr hab. Karol Polejowski, the current deputy president of the IPN, as its nominee.
Sejm to Confirm the Choice
The decision will be presented to the Sejm, where it will be formalized. The Collegium’s chair, Prof. dr hab. Wojciech Polak, forwarded a recommendation for Polejowski to Sejm Marshal’s chief of staff, Stanisław Zakroczymski.
Background of Collaborations
Before becoming the IPN deputy president in 2021, Polejowski worked as a scientific staff member at the Gdańsk Museum of the Second World War and was a close collaborator of Nawrocki while Nawrocki served as director there.
Academic Credentials
Polejowski holds a habilitation in medieval history and has conducted research on the Polish underground resistance during World War II.
