Iran Declares EU Armies as Terrorist Groups

Iran has designated EU country armies as terrorist groups in response to the EU’s labeling of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.

Iran’s Declaration

Trying to strike at the IRGC, which is the biggest obstacle to the spread of terrorism in Europe, Europeans have shot themselves in the foot and once again, through blind obedience to Americans, acted against the interests of their own nations – Kalibaf announced on Iranian television.

Legal Basis

The basis for this step was a 2019 law, adopted after the United States recognized the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC) as a terrorist group. This law allows similar action against any country. AFP noted that it is currently unclear what the consequences of this decision are.

EU’s Position

EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas announced on Thursday that the IRGC has been recognized by foreign ministers of EU member states as a terrorist organization in response to brutal repression by the Iranian regime against participants in anti-government protests.
