US Forces Respond to Regional Threats
CENTCOM reported that US forces shot down four Iranian attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz, citing a direct threat to regional maritime traffic. In a subsequent defensive action, US forces struck Iranian coastal radar surveillance stations in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to prevent further attacks.
While the specific target of the initial drone flight remains unclear, the Iranian Mehr agency previously reported that Iranian forces fired “warning shots” in the area, likely linked to US naval movements.
Ballistic Missile Attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain
US Central Command confirmed that Iran launched seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on Friday night. Six missiles were intercepted, while one failed to hit its intended target. The US military rejected Iranian claims that a base in Bahrain had been struck.
CENTCOM stated there are currently no reports of US casualties, dismissing Iranian claims regarding damage to the US 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain as false.
Ongoing Hostilities and Diplomatic Impasse
Reports earlier this week indicated an attack on an airport in Kuwait that resulted in at least one death and over 60 injuries. Iranian authorities have denied involvement in that incident.
These exchanges represent a breakdown in the ceasefire that has been in place since April 8. US President Donald Trump has downplayed the recent hostilities, while peace talks remain at a stalemate pending new proposals from Tehran.
