Iran Lowers Age for War-Related Activities to 12

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has lowered the minimum age for participation in war-related auxiliary activities to 12 years old.

IRGC Lowers Minimum Age for Auxiliary Roles

A representative of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the minimum age for participation in auxiliary activities related to war with the USA and Israel has been lowered to 12 years old.

IRGC Culture Affairs Official Rahim Nadali stated that recruitment for assistance with activities such as patrols, checkpoints, and logistics is underway as part of an initiative called “For Iran.”

Growing Demand from Younger Volunteers

“Considering that younger and younger people are applying and asking for the opportunity to participate, we have lowered the minimum age to 12 years,” Nadali said, according to state media. He added that even 12- and 13-year-olds can now participate in such activities if they wish.

Conflict with International Law

The decision to lower the age of those willing to assist the armed forces was made despite Iran’s commitments under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which prohibits the use of children in warfare.

Escalating Regional Tensions

Since February 28th, airstrikes by Israeli and US forces have been ongoing against Iran. Tehran has responded by attacking Israel and several Persian Gulf states, targeting both American bases and civilian facilities.
