Iran Maintains Conditions, Warns Over Strait of Hormuz Closure

The Iranian navy continues to threaten vessels attempting passage through the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran’s approval, with the waterway remaining closed.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed?

Several ships in the Persian Gulf have received messages from the Iranian navy stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, according to Reuters sources.

Iran Sets Conditions for Passage

The Iranian navy has issued a statement declaring, “Every ship attempting to enter the sea will be identified and destroyed.”

Coordination with Iranian Armed Forces Required

Following the announcement of a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that movement through the strait would occur “in coordination with the Iranian armed forces and with consideration for technical limitations.”

Potential Limited Reopening

An anonymous Iranian official told Reuters that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is possible on Thursday or Friday, but in a limited capacity and under Tehran’s conditions.

Ceasefire Includes Strait Reopening

The U.S. and Iran agreed in the early hours of Wednesday to a two-week ceasefire, with a component of the agreement—brokered by Pakistan—being the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Tehran.
