Tehran has responded to ceasefire proposals by calling for a lasting resolution to the conflict, setting conditions including security guarantees for the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran Demands Lasting Peace, Not Temporary Truce
In a statement released by the Iranian agency, Tehran has called on the United States to achieve a “permanent end to the war” in accordance with Iranian considerations.
Iran seeks a complete resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Ten-Point Iranian Response Outlines Conditions
The Iranian response consists of ten points, including demands for an end to military operations in the region, the establishment of security protocols for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction efforts, and the lifting of sanctions.
Trump Sets Deadline, Threatens Retaliation
President Trump previously confirmed a final deadline for Iran to reach an agreement, set for 7 April at 8 PM EDT (midnight in Poland). He warned that if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz by that time, the country will lose its power plants and bridges.
“They won’t have bridges, they won’t have power plants, they won’t have anything,” Trump stated during an Easter event at the White House. “I won’t go into it, because there are other things worse than those two.”
US Pilot Injuries, Trump Claims “Luck” in Downing of F-15
President Trump reported that both crew members of the American F-15 fighter jet shot down over Iran on Friday (April 3rd) are injured but recovering. He also suggested that the Iranians were “lucky” to have downed the aircraft.
“Total Change of Regime” in Iran, Says Trump
Trump asserted that the war in the Middle East could end quickly if Iran “did what they have to do.” He claimed a “total change of regime” has occurred, stating that the current Iranian leadership is more reasonable, wiser, and less radical than its predecessors.
Failed Arms Delivery to Iranian Protesters
Trump revealed that the US had previously delivered weapons to Iranian protesters through “a certain group,” but the weapons were intercepted. He had previously stated the weapons were delivered via Kurds, a claim denied by Iranian Kurds. Trump believes that if armed, Iranians would challenge the authorities in Tehran.
Trump Declares Iran “Destroyed” and Warns Against Nuclear Weapons
“In 45 days, we destroyed a very powerful country,” Trump stated, suggesting this is why Iran desires a ceasefire. He labeled allowing Iran to possess nuclear weapons a “war crime.” When questioned about the potential war crime of attacking Iranian infrastructure, he responded, “Because they are animals.”
Trump Criticizes NATO, Hints at Potential Withdrawal
The President reiterated his criticism of NATO, stating the alliance has not lived up to expectations and “should be ashamed.” When asked about potentially withdrawing from the alliance, he responded, “You’ll find out soon.”
