Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz Amid U.S. Ultimatum

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned it will close the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. attacks Iranian energy infrastructure, escalating tensions following threats from President Trump.

Iran Warns of Strait of Hormuz Closure

Iran threatens to close the Strait of Hormuz if President Donald Trump carries out threats to attack Iranian energy infrastructure, according to a statement released Sunday by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IRGC stated that if attacks occur on Iranian energy facilities, American-capital enterprises will face “complete destruction,” and energy facilities in countries hosting U.S. bases will become “legitimate” targets.

Trump’s Ultimatum and Iranian Response

President Trump threatened on Saturday to destroy Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully opened within 48 hours.

Disruptions to Oil Transport

Iran has been blocking traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil transport, in response to attacks by the U.S. and Israel, which began on February 28th. Iranian armed forces have repeatedly targeted ships passing through the strait, restricting navigation and increasing global oil prices.
