Loud explosions were heard in Dubai and Doha for a second consecutive day on Sunday, as Iranian retaliatory attacks intensified. Debris from intercepted drones fell on two houses in Dubai, injuring two people who received necessary medical aid, according to Dubai’s press office.
Damage to Infrastructure
The international airport in Dubai was damaged, along with airports in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. The iconic Burj Al-Arab hotel caught fire after debris from a downed Iranian drone struck its facade. Local authorities reported the fire was quickly extinguished with no casualties.
US-Israel Attack on Iran
Earlier on Saturday, Israel and the United States launched coordinated attacks on Iran, a situation anticipated during weeks of negotiations. President Trump stated the attack aimed to “defend the American nation by eliminating direct threats from the Iranian regime.”
Iranian Retaliation and Leader’s Death
Iran responded by launching missiles at US allies. The US and Israel attacks killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran, according to Iranian state media. A 40-day mourning period was declared, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed severe vengeance for Khamenei and other leaders, including the president.
