Israel Breaks Ceasefire, Orders Military Strike on Hezbollah

Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a military attack on Hezbollah on Saturday, April 25th, following rocket and drone launches from Lebanon into Israel.

Netanyahu Authorizes Attack

Prime Minister Netanjahu issued the order on Saturday, April 25th. The Times of Israel reports the decision came after Hezbollah fired rockets and drones towards northern Israel and Israeli forces stationed in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah’s Recent Attacks

The report notes that Iran-backed Hezbollah has conducted numerous attacks daily on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, claiming they were responding to Israeli ceasefire violations.

Ceasefire Agreement and Extension

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah had been in effect since April 16th, initially agreed upon for 10 days by Israeli and Lebanese officials with U.S. mediation. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire would be extended by three weeks.

Continued Clashes Despite Truce

Despite the ceasefire leading to a significant reduction in hostilities, Israeli and Hezbollah forces continued to attack each other in southern Lebanon, where Israel maintains a buffer zone.
