Israel says it destroyed a secret Iranian nuclear facility while also attacking a building housing the Assembly of Experts.
Destruction of Nuclear Facility
According to the IDF, the facility named Minzadehei was located west of Tehran and partially underground. After a 12-day war in June 2025, Israel claims Iran “did not halt its nuclear military activities and continued to develop the potential required for a nuclear weapon, moving infrastructure to an underground facility protected from air attacks.”
The IDF claims it tracked Iranian scientists working on nuclear weapons and “located their new workplace in this facility, enabling a precise strike on this secret complex.” At Minzadehei, they were “developing a key element of nuclear weapons,” reported the online newspaper “Times of Israel.”
Attack on Assembly of Experts
The Israeli army previously announced that in Tuesday’s attack, it destroyed the building of the Assembly of Experts. Photos of the destroyed building appeared on social media. The Assembly of Experts is an 88-member committee of clerics that selects the successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a U.S.-Israeli attack on Saturday after nearly 37 years as the highest spiritual-political leader of Iran.
According to Israeli TV Channel 12 with sources, not all members of the Assembly of Experts were present in the attacked building on Tuesday, only a small group responsible for counting votes in the process of electing the next leader. The Israeli attack on the building of Iran’s Assembly of Experts in Kom disrupted the country’s succession process, commented the portal of the newspaper “Jerusalem Post.”
Succession Process
The service added that the attack also has a symbolic dimension, as it struck what represents the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to commentators, a quick election of a new leader would help the Iranian regime survive. The obligation to immediately elect a new leader is imposed on the Assembly of Experts by the Iranian constitution.
