Israel Launches New Military Operation in Southern Lebanon

Israel initiated another military operation in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, escalating tensions and raising civilian casualties.

Israeli Operation in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli army has begun further ground operations in southern Lebanon, targeting structures belonging to the armed group Hezbollah. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, at least 850 people have been killed since early March due to Israeli strikes, including 107 children, and 2105 have been injured.

Hezbollah and Israeli Response

Israel’s military actions are a response to Hezbollah’s activity – a Shia armed organization supported by Iran and based in Lebanon. Israeli authorities describe the operation as limited, but the scale of clashes and rising death toll indicate a serious escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

Escalation of Conflict

The land operation is part of a broader military campaign that began in early March, with Israel responding to rocket attacks launched by Hezbollah from Lebanese territory. Hezbollah fighters reportedly fired over 100 rockets towards northern Israel in recent days, significantly increasing tension on the border.

Clashes and Neutralization of Fighters

According to Israeli media and military sources, the ground operation was preceded by intense military activity in the region. Israeli soldiers conducted operations in eastern parts of southern Lebanon on Saturday evening, resulting in direct clashes with Hezbollah fighters.

During these operations, Israeli forces encountered groups of armed fighters and – according to the army – “neutralized several of them” in areas identified by Israeli intelligence as important logistical and operational points for the organization.

Hezbollah’s Capabilities

Hezbollah remains one of the most powerful paramilitary formations in the Middle East, possessing tens of thousands of short- and medium-range rockets, as well as an extensive network of tunnels and military bases in southern Lebanon.

Civilian Impact and Humanitarian Crisis

The civilian population is bearing the most dramatic consequences of the conflict. Lebanon’s health ministry reports at least 850 deaths since March 2nd, including 107 children and dozens of women, with 2105 injured.

Humanitarian organizations are warning that the scale of destruction and displacement is growing daily. Over 800,000 residents of Lebanon have been forced to leave their homes, representing approximately 15 percent of the country’s population.

Many cities in southern Lebanon lack space in shelters, with some residents sleeping in cars, unfinished buildings, or makeshift tents. Difficult weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, are further worsening the situation for those fleeing the bombardments.

Attacks on Medical Facilities

Reports of attacks on medical facilities are particularly controversial. Twelve healthcare workers, including doctors and paramedics, were killed in one airstrike in southern Lebanon. International organizations report similar incidents, with the number of killed medics exceeding 30 in recent days.
