Israeli Military Eyes Litani River as New Security Line

The Israeli army’s statement was described as an “aggressive interpretation of the ceasefire scope.” Sources within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the military will remain in southern Lebanon indefinitely, viewing the Litani River as a new security line with Hezbollah unless the Iran-backed group disarms.

Lebanese President Seeks Lasting Agreement with Israel

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Lebanese authorities are working on a text for a lasting agreement with Israel. He emphasized that initiating direct negotiations with Israel is “not a sign of weakness” and affirmed that any future agreement will not involve territorial concessions.

IDF Assesses Hezbollah’s Weakened Capabilities

The IDF assessed the 10-day ceasefire, which began on April 16th, with a degree of optimism, believing Hezbollah is weaker than it was during the ceasefire in autumn 2024. The IDF was surprised by the limited effectiveness of Iran’s allies, expecting both Hezbollah and Houthi rebels to join the fighting more quickly and intensely. The Houthis remained largely on the sidelines, while Hezbollah’s initial attacks on Israel were delayed.
