Israel’s Gaza onslaught rises to 90 dead, 24 children – “Ceasefire threatened”

Israel’s attacks on Gaza have surged to 90 casualties, including 24 children, amid a ceasefire that is repeatedly strained, Al Jazeera reports and U.S. officials say.

Rising Gaza Casualties

On Wednesday, 29 October, Al Jazeera reported that the number of casualties from the recent Israeli offensives in Gaza had climbed to 90 people, 24 of whom were children. The channel cited medical witnesses for the figures.

At least 42 Palestinians were killed in central Gaza, 31 in the north, and 18 in the south. Five residents died when Israeli forces bombed a shelter in Deir el‑Balah, where displaced persons had taken refuge.

Al Jazeera On‑Ground Report

The casualties are high because, after the ceasefire was announced, Palestinians are returning to their pre‑war homes, seeking refuge in damaged buildings and combing rubble. Finding safe hideouts during raids proves extremely difficult under such conditions.

Al Jazeera correspondent Nour Odeh, reporting from Jordan because the station cannot access Israel or the West Bank, said Israel is considering continuing attacks on Gaza while limiting the number of humanitarian aid trucks.

Mutual Accusations Between Israel and Hamas

Israel alleges that Hamas fired anti‑tank rockets and grenades at soldiers in southern Gaza the day before, a claim Hamas denies. It also accuses Hamas of deliberately delaying the release of killed hostages’ bodies, while Palestinians argue that locating bodies amid the rubble is impossible.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the strike on Tuesday afternoon, and Israel’s Defence Minister warned that Hamas would pay a high price for violating the ceasefire.

Hamas contends that Israel has broken the ceasefire’s terms 125 times since it went into effect three weeks ago, calling it the most serious breach since U.S. involvement. The ceasefire, agreed in early October after more than two years of war, has already taken almost 70,000 lives in Gaza.

U.S. Statements on the Ceasefire

After Tuesday’s and night attacks, President Donald Trump said Israel had “responded” to the removal of a soldier and added that “nothing threatens the ceasefire.” He added that “Hamas must behave.”

Vice‑President J.D. Vance, quoted by Reuters, stated that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains in effect despite mutual accusations of violations, noting that the agreement does not preclude occasional skirmishes.
