Jewelry and Cash Returned to Owner as Fraud Suspect Arrested

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on the spot after he collected over 56,000 złoty in jewelry and cash from a victim in a fraud scheme.

Arrest on Hot Trail

As a result of cooperation between officers from the National Police Headquarters, detectives from the metropolitan Criminal Department, and detectives from the southern district command, a 22-year-old suspected of fraud was arrested on the spot.

The man fell into police hands as he was leaving the stairwell of the building where the victim lived. He received an envelope filled with cash and jewelry from her.

The Fraud Scheme

The woman believed she was handing over her valuables and savings to “good hands and for a good cause.” The scammers informed her during a phone call that her relative had caused an accident, hit a pregnant woman, and now money was needed for bail so he wouldn’t be sent to jail.

Recovery of Stolen Property

Police secured a ring, rings, a chain, earrings, as well as almost 40,000 złoty in cash. The total value of the loot was over 56,000 złoty.

The woman had been deceived into believing the money and jewelry were for a legitimate purpose.

Investigators from the investigative division gathered extensive evidence, which became the basis for charging the 22-year-old with fraud.

The Warsaw-Praga South District Prosecutor’s Office applied to the court for a temporary arrest, which the court granted. The suspect was placed in jail for three months.
