The Piaseczno District Court has ordered a three-month pre-trial detention for journalist Leszek K., who faces charges of illegal weapons possession and making death threats against the local police commander.
Arrest and Charges
The District Court in Piaseczno granted a motion from prosecutors to place Leszek K. under a three-month pre-trial detention. He stands accused of illegally possessing an Italian-made gas pistol and 54 rounds of ammunition, a violation of Article 263 § 2 of the Penal Code.
The second set of charges stems from an incident on June 6, 2026, where the suspect allegedly sent emails threatening the life of the Piaseczno District Police Commander. Prosecutors allege the threats were intended to coerce the officer into specific official actions and included verbal abuse related to his professional duties.
Denial of Allegations
According to District Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, Leszek K. has denied all charges. He declined to provide explanations regarding the weapon possession, and while he offered a version of events concerning the threats, he claimed he was being framed by an individual who had previously threatened him with a knife.
Investigative Progress
Authorities have already secured expert opinions on the weaponry involved. Future investigative steps will include forensic IT analysis and a psychiatric evaluation. The suspect’s status remains that of a person under investigation, and the detention does not determine his guilt.
Media and Public Context
Public interest has been heightened due to the suspect’s identity as a prominent journalist known for his work in publications like Rzeczpospolita and Wprost, and his operation of the Reporterzy Online channel. While some reports suggested a link to the Polnord and Roman Giertych cases, prosecutors have denied a direct connection.
Defense attorney Łukasz Pawelski has expressed doubt that his client could be guilty of such threats, suggesting the possibility of a provocation. Reports also note that Leszek K. was previously fined in early 2026 for exposing the personal data of NBP President Adam Glapiński.
