Judge Prof. Adam Strzembosz Dies at 95

Polish judge, lawyer, and former President of the Supreme Court, Adam Strzembosz, died on Sunday at age 95, leaving a legacy of legal independence and principled moral authority.

Career and Office

Adam Strzembosz was a prominent lawyer, judge, and professor of legal science. From 1989 to 1990 he served as Deputy Minister of Justice, and from 1990 to 1998 he was the first President of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the State Tribunal.

Announcement of Death

Former President of the Court of Justice Chamber, Stanisław Zabłocki, posted on Facebook that the renowned judge had died last night, saying: “Today at night the great judge, Prof. Adam Strzembosz, has passed away. I cannot gather my thoughts. Great sadness and regret.” He added that Strzembosz died at 95 and described him as a role model who gave strength and hope.

Tributes from Colleagues

Polish Member of the European Parliament Andrzej Halicki wrote that Strzembosz was a moral authority and a model of independence, courage, and commitment to the rule of law, saying “His life and work remain an example of courage, wisdom, and service to law.”

Former Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar posted on X that “No one could chart a path for rule of law and democracy as he did.” He wished him “rest in peace.”

Police Minister Marcin Kierwiński also expressed that “No one, like him, could steer us toward constitutional democracy. Rest in peace.”
