In October, a judge linked to a political activist group was accused of driving under the influence during a car‑tree collision near Rejowiec Fabryczny, a claim rebutted by the judge’s lawyer.
Defender’s Rebuttal of Accident Allegations
The lawyer of Judge Jakub Iwaniec declared that his client neither drove the car involved in the collision nor had control of it, insisting he was merely a passenger. He added that other individuals had reportedly transported the judge.
Seven‑Point Statement Highlights
The statement, composed of seven points, accuses prosecutors of focusing more on seizing the judge’s equipment and searching his home than on any alleged intoxication. It confirms the police seized Judge Iwaniec’s phone and references the absence of a copy of the evidence photo taken during the search as well as the refusal to provide a copy of the search protocol.
Prosecutor’s Confirmation of Collision
The prosecutor’s office in Zamość confirmed that a collision involving a vehicle driven under the influence occurred on Saturday night near Rejowiec Fabryczny. Breath analysis recorded 0.96 mg/l of alcohol, and blood samples were also collected. The case is now under the Zamość district prosecutor and will be forwarded to the national prosecutor’s internal affairs unit to initiate proceedings to lift the judge’s immunity.
