Kaczyński and Morawiecki Reach Compromise Amid PiS Internal Conflict

Following a seven-hour meeting, Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki announced a compromise regarding Morawiecki’s new association, aiming to unify PiS.

PiS Leadership Announces Compromise

On Tuesday, April 21st, Jarosław Kaczyński announced after a meeting with Mateusz Morawiecki that a compromise had been reached regarding Morawiecki’s newly formed “Rozwój Plus” (Development Plus) association. The association will not be dissolved but will operate “as if within the party.”

Morawiecki stated his formation would serve to reach “under the umbrella of Law and Justice” to various communities and social groups with a program offer.

Internal Divisions Within PiS

Since the end of November, PiS politicians have unofficially acknowledged a conflict within the party between supporters of Morawiecki, known as the “harcerze” (scouts), and a group of his opponents, including Przemysław Czarnak, Jacek Sasin, Tobiasz Bocheński, and Patryk Jaki, referred to as the “maślarze” (butter-makers) or the Zbigniew Ziobro faction.

Reactions to the Agreement

Tobiasz Bochenek stated on X (formerly Twitter) that it was “a very good day for the patriotic camp,” and that the association’s activities were suspended, with active members joining the PiS Expert Council to pursue their initiatives. He credited Kaczyński with returning the party to joint action.

Cieszyński quickly responded, stating, “It seemed it couldn’t be simpler, and he still didn’t understand.” He added that media attention was focused on internal PiS issues instead of Donald Tusk’s missteps.

Morawiecki and Szczucki Defend Association’s Role

Michał Dworczyk emphasized that the association’s activities were not suspended but would begin “as soon as it is registered.” Krzysztof Szczucki added that the “Rozwój Plus” association would operate with specific tasks and function as “two lungs” for the party.

Support from Czarnak and Calls for Unity

Przemysław Czarnek expressed positive news, stating a renewed commitment to victory over Tusk. He invited Morawiecki to joint meetings and conferences, proclaiming “Long live Poland!”

“Two Lungs” Strategy for PiS

Kaczyński explained that PiS intends to reach out to supporters of the Confederation and the Confederation of Crown Poland, as well as a more “radical electorate,” with Czarnak playing a key role. Morawiecki will focus on attracting those seeking an effective and stable government.

Association to Operate Within Party Structures

Rafał Bochenek announced that the Rozwój Plus association’s activities would be concentrated within the PiS Expert Council and party structures, not alongside them. The association will not accept new members or establish local structures.
