Kaczyński Denies PiS Link to Crypto Firm, Backs Total Ban

Jarosław Kaczyński distanced his Law and Justice party from the Zondacrypto scandal and reiterated his support for a complete cryptocurrency ban on Tuesday.

Kaczyński Rejects Allegations of Involvement

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński addressed allegations linking his party to the cryptocurrency firm Zondacrypto, stating that “our formation has absolutely nothing to do with it.” He asserted the situation unfolded under the oversight of current authorities’ intelligence services, exceeding normal state dependencies.

Kaczyński denied claims that organizations connected to PiS received funds from the company, noting that a certain television station did, but is not affiliated with the party. He admitted disagreements with the station on various issues.

Call for Complete Crypto Ban

Kaczyński reaffirmed his “decisive support for a total ban on cryptocurrencies,” stating he would favor legislation enacting such a prohibition. He indicated he would vote in favor of any law moving in that direction and believes the entire PiS club would do the same.

Funds to Ziobro’s Institute

Previously, Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed that Przemysław Kral, the CEO of Zondacrypto, made a 450,000 zł deposit to the Zbigniew Ziobro’s Institute of Polish Sovereignty in late 2025.

Institute Denies Involvement

The Institute of Polish Sovereignty stated that politicians associated with it did not participate in drafting the crypto market act, nor did they comment on or propose amendments. Ziobro himself did not vote on cryptocurrency regulations. Foundation board members have no personal contact with Przemysław Kral, whose law firm supported the Foundation transparently, without conditions, and without discussing the crypto market.

Zondacrypto Advertising on TV Republika

Data from the Media Monitoring Institute shows that TV Republika was one of the media outlets most frequently used for Zondacrypto advertising between March 2024 and March 2026.

Allegations of Russian Connection and Investigation

“Gazeta Wyborcza” reported that Polish intelligence suggests the Tambov mafia, a dangerous Russian criminal group linked to Vladimir Putin’s allies, controls Zondacrypto. The Katowice Regional Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation on April 17th into potential fraud against Zondacrypto clients and money laundering, initially estimating damages at 350 million zł.

Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk confirmed that no line of inquiry, including the “Russian trace” and potential involvement of criminal groups, would be overlooked. He noted the investigation is only ten days old and currently involves around 700 registered victims, with numbers increasing daily.

Korneluk stated that “several dozen searches” have been conducted, and a large amount of data and IT equipment have been seized for analysis.

Presidential Vetoes of Crypto Act

President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the crypto market act on December 1, 2025. The act included supervisory measures, such as allowing the Financial Supervision Commission to suspend public offerings of cryptocurrencies. The government resubmitted the same bill, which was passed by the Sejm and then vetoed again by the President on February 12th, differing only in the maximum KNF supervisory fee. The presidential office justified the vetoes citing excessive regulations and a lack of consideration for proposed amendments. The Sejm failed to override the second veto on April 17th.
