Kaczyński Has Chosen PM Candidate; Sikorski Cools Kaczyński’s Ardor

Sikorski cites polls favoring KO to form government; Kaczyński confirms PiS PM pick, emphasizing electability.

Sikorski on PiS PM Candidate

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that polls show Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) at around 20% support, while Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) leads with approximately 34%. He argued that based on the constitution, the mandate to form a government falls to the largest party winning the elections.

Kaczyński Confirms Selection

President of PiS Jarosław Kaczyński announced on Thursday that he has already decided on the party’s candidate for Prime Minister. The chosen candidate must be electable, capable of acting as a “locomotive” for the elections, and well-prepared for the premiership. He clarified that past merits alone are not the sole criterion and emphasized the selection is effectively made.

Poll: Leads and Potential Candidates

An unofficial PAP survey lists Chief of the Presidential Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki, former Education Minister Przemysław Czarnek, Vice President of PiS Anna Krupka, and Vice President of PiS Tobiasz Bocheński as leading candidates for the nomination. The latest OGB poll shows KO at 34.5%, PiS at 27.81%, Konfederacja at 14.38%, Konfederacja Korony Polskiej at 8.99%, and Nowa Lewica at 5.86%. Other parties fall below the electoral threshold.
