A late-night meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński, Mateusz Morawiecki, and Adam Bielan addressed tensions stemming from Morawiecki’s newly formed “Rozwój Plus” association.
Morawiecki Association Sparks Internal Dispute
A meeting took place on Monday, April 20th, between Mateusz Morawiecki, Jarosław Kaczyński, and Adam Bielan, primarily concerning the association “Rozwój Plus” established by the former prime minister. The association reportedly includes dozens of PiS parliamentarians, including Ryszard Terlecki, Waldemar Buda, Michał Dworczyk, Piotr Müller, Daniel Obajtek, and Olga Semeniuk-Patkowska, leading to internal party conflict.
Kaczyński reportedly threatened that members of Morawiecki’s association would be excluded from future electoral lists.
Tensions Appear to Ease After Talks
However, the evening discussions appear to have led to at least a partial de-escalation of tensions. Adam Bielan posted on social media, stating, “There are ideas, there is agreement and a common direction. And that sometimes sparks fly? Those who like each other quarrel.” Similar sentiments were expressed by PiS politicians aligned with Morawiecki.
Voices from the “maślarze” faction, which opposes the former prime minister, remain limited.
PiS Representative Apologizes for Association Controversy
A PiS representative issued an apology for the turmoil surrounding the Morawiecki association.
Association Members Express Optimism
Representatives of the “Rozwój Plus” association expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, asserting that a split within PiS is unlikely. Olga Semeniuk-Patkowska, in an interview with Telewizja Republika, stated that Kaczyński’s pragmatism and experience would prevent the camp from fracturing.
Agreement Reached on Association’s Future
It was agreed that the “Rozwój Plus” association would continue to function with parliamentarians as members, and that there would be no split within PiS. Kaczyński stated the association would aim to broaden the electorate and support Przemysław Czarnak as the prime ministerial candidate, while acknowledging that “nothing is certain in politics.”
The association is open to members from opposing factions, and a representative called for a public apology, particularly after the recent weekend.
Kaczyński Warns of Exclusion from Electoral Lists
Jarosław Kaczyński reportedly closed electoral lists to PiS politicians who join Morawiecki’s association, prompting speculation about a potential crackdown.
Morawiecki’s Faction Presented List of Demands
According to TVN24, Morawiecki arrived at the meeting with Kaczyński with a list of demands prepared by his faction, known as “harcerze.” These included acceptance of the “Rozwój Plus” association, protection from attacks by the “maślarze” faction, influence on the party’s program, consultation on electoral priorities, increased representation of “harcerze” in the Political Committee, and favorable placement on electoral lists.
Concerns were raised about potential local structures, which Michał Dworczyk had previously indicated would not be built.
Positive Outlook from Morawiecki’s Supporters
Supporters of the former prime minister expressed a positive outlook following the meeting, while acknowledging Kaczyński’s strong reaction and the possibility of division.
Opposing Faction Remains Focused on Czarnak
A representative of the faction opposing Morawiecki reiterated that the party’s direction is clear, with Przemysław Czarnak designated as the prime ministerial candidate.
