Polish opposition leader Jarosław Kaczyński remains in hospital days after admission with suspected pneumonia, sources report no worsening condition.
Extended Hospital Stay
“Fakt” reported on Monday, February 2, that President of Law and Justice (PiS) Jarosław Kaczyński continues to remain in hospital. The newspaper states that Kaczyński may stay there for several more days. Earlier, politicians from his party had informed that the hospitalization would last until the end of last week.
Medical Condition and Updates
In the first day, the president was admitted to the hospital with a fever, which was quickly brought down. There was suspicion of pneumonia. No updates on his health condition were available over the weekend as doctors were unavailable. However, Kaczyński has been taking phone calls. “I spoke with him two days ago. His condition is not worsening,” a source from the opposition leader’s circle told “Fakt”. “There is no reason for concern, at his age infections happen more often,” added another source.
Presidential Contact
At the end of January, as reported by Wirtualna Polska, President Karol Nawrocki had called Kaczyński. In a telephone conversation, Nawrocki wished him a speedy recovery and inquired about his well-being. “When Jarosław recovers, he will meet with Karol,” an informant for the portal reported. The President also informed PiS parliament members about his conversation with Kaczyński during Thursday’s meeting.
Political Concerns
“The President said a few polite words, that at this time a very important person for us, the leader of the right wing, is not with us, but that he had spoken with him earlier and wished him health,” stated one politician. “Karol is grateful to the President for the nomination and will never forget that he became president because of him. That’s why he naturally cares about the President’s health condition,” admitted a person from Nawrocki’s circle. PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek informed that Jarosław Kaczyński was hospitalized due to an infection.
