Tobiasz Bocheński, Poland’s Law and Justice Party (PiS) vice-president and former regional governor, is emerging as a potential prime ministerial candidate despite being viewed as a yes-man and lacking a political faction within the party.
Bocheński as PiS’s Prime Ministerial Candidate?
According to Interii journalists, Jarosław Kaczyński is seen as considering Tobiasz Bocheński the politician who will lead PiS to victory in the 2027 parliamentary elections. Marcin Fijołk points out that Bocheński’s absence of a personal faction within PiS could be an advantage, as his lack of administrative experience may be offset by critics finding it harder to target him in the campaign due to his unblemished record.
Kaczyński’s protégé
Days ago, Jacek Gądek of *Newsweek* noted that a group within PiS is pushing to keep Mateusz Morawiecki from returning as Prime Minister. This group reportedly includes Bocheński and Przemysław Czarnek, both highlighted as possible candidates for the premiership. However, the magazine emphasized that Bocheński remains the party’s preferred choice in recent discussions.
Vice-President, Warsaw Mayor Candidate, and MEP
Tobiasz Bocheński currently serves as vice-president of PiS. In 2024, he secured a seat in the European Parliament with 95,880 votes. Previously, he was the governor of Łódź and Mazovia provinces and ran as a candidate for Warsaw’s mayor in local elections, finishing second with 23.1% of the vote.
