Katowice: Polish Services Arrest Ukrainian Nationals for Planting Hidden Cameras, Gathering Soldiers’ Info

Polish intelligence and security services arrested two Ukrainian nationals in Katowice on Monday, suspecting them of spying by installing hidden cameras on Ukraine supply routes and collecting military data.

32- and 34-Year-Olds Suspected of Espionage

The pair, aged 32 and 34, were detained in Katowice after joint operations by the Military Counterintelligence Service and the Internal Security Agency revealed that they were carrying out espionage tasks aimed at assessing Poland’s military potential and monitoring critical infrastructure. The allegations involve gathering information on Polish armed forces and key transport routes supporting Ukraine’s military.

They Planned to Install Hidden Cameras and Gather Soldiers’ Information

According to a police statement, the suspects had set up concealed cameras along weapon and equipment transport corridors destined for Ukraine. They were also stockpiling communication equipment, as the radio station RMF FM reported, in support of these spying activities.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation is being conducted under suspicion of a crime defined in Article 130 § 3 of the Polish Penal Code, i.e. espionage. A court decision will set the suspects to spend the next three months in custody, as stated by spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński.
