Kierwiński Addresses Reports on Wife’s Earnings at Koleje Mazowieckie

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński defended his wife’s professional career on Tuesday after reports emerged that her earnings at the regional rail operator exceed those of Warsaw’s mayor.

Employment and Earnings Disclosed

On Monday, June 1, Gazeta Wyborcza reported on personnel connections within Koleje Mazowieckie and other regional institutions. Agnieszka Gierzyńska-Kierwińska has served as the company’s director of strategy and development for over five years.

Financial statements show her income from the company rose from 270,100 PLN in 2023 to 342,700 PLN in 2025. Additionally, she received 55,600 PLN in local councilor stipends last year. The newspaper noted for comparison that Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski earned between 235,000 and 257,000 PLN annually during that period.

Minister’s Response to Allegations

Responding to the reports on Trójka radio on June 2, Minister Kierwiński addressed claims of nepotism. He stated that his wife earns more than he does, noting that executive salaries for top state officials in Poland are often lower than those in the private or regional public sectors.

Kierwiński emphasized that his wife has been involved in politics for 24 years, predating their relationship. He asserted that they have maintained a clear conscience regarding their professional choices and recalled that his wife’s position was previously eliminated when the Law and Justice (PiS) party took power.

Opposition Move for Vote of No Confidence

On Monday, Law and Justice (PiS) lawmakers formally submitted a motion for a vote of no confidence against the Minister of Interior and Administration. The document has been presented to Deputy Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

Mariusz Błaszczak announced the motion on social media, accusing the Ministry’s leadership of overseeing a period defined by chaos, failure, and helplessness.
