On Sunday, December 14, the KOD ’10 Years’ exhibition on Literatów Square in Kielce was vandalised, prompting a sharp response from its organisers.
Vandalism at the KOD ’10 Years’ exhibition
On Sunday, Dec. 14, almost all display boards with photographs were torn from their frames on Literatów Square in Kielce; some were broken. A member reported the damage to police.
Police inspected the scene and interviewed witnesses.
The Komitet declared they would rescue undamaged parts and reinstall them at the same site, with the area scheduled for restoration by Jan. 31, 2026.
Organisers’ sharp response
“I’m terribly angry,” said Monika Szafraniec, chair of the Świętokrzyskie Region Board of the Komitet. She said organisers had anticipated the possibility of a vandal attack.
She noted the exhibition was in the city centre with CCTV and regular police patrols, and that vandals had not taken advantage. Value of the displays was estimated at about 2,000 PLN, not counting volunteer labour.
Exhibition opened just two weeks ago
The 10‑year commemoration of the Komitet Obrony Demokracji was launched on Dec. 3, 2025, on Literatów Square.
In a statement, the Komitet said the photos were “a tribute to the movement’s work and a record of the engagement and determination of thousands of people defending the rule of law and democracy.”
