Kosiniak-Kamysz Confirms U.S. Commitment Amid Troop Rotation Uncertainty

Following reports of a canceled rotation of 4,000 U.S. soldiers to Poland, Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz held talks with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to reaffirm the strength of the strategic alliance.

Assurances from the Pentagon

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that after his conversation with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, the U.S. commitment to Poland’s security remains unchanged. Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the Pentagon is currently developing a new deployment plan for Europe, emphasizing that no decision to reduce U.S. military capabilities in Poland has been finalized.

Concerns Over Troop Rotations

The uncertainty emerged following media reports that the Pentagon canceled a planned rotation of approximately 4,000 troops to Poland. CNN reported that this decision, part of a broader U.S. effort to reduce forces in Europe, coincides with the withdrawal of several thousand troops from Germany.

Strategic Realignment in Europe

General Alexus Grynkewich confirmed the suspension of the Polish rotation, noting that the U.S. is adjusting its presence as European NATO members strengthen their own defense spending. He stated that the U.S. will focus on providing critical capabilities that allies cannot yet maintain themselves, describing this as a multi-year process that will not undermine regional defense plans.

Government Response and Internal Tensions

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that Poland is actively seeking information and influencing allied decisions by highlighting its geographic importance and increased defense investments. Meanwhile, the opposition party PiS is demanding explanations regarding when the government first learned of the American plans, leading to calls for formal parliamentary intervention.
