Krakow’s Election Commissioner has scheduled a referendum for May 24, 2026, to decide on the recall of Mayor Aleksander Miszalski and the entire City Council.
Referendum Decision and Date
On Tuesday, April 7th, the Krakow I Election Commissioner issued a decision regarding the referendum concerning the recall of Krakow Mayor Aleksander Miszalski before the end of his term.
The vote will be held on May 24, 2026. Voters will decide not only on Miszalski’s recall but also on the recall of the entire Krakow City Council.
Validity Requirements
For the referendum to be valid, at least 158,555 Krakow residents must participate – a minimum of 3/5 of those who participated in the second round of the mayoral election.
The required participation number for the Krakow City Council is 179,792.
2024 Mayoral Election Results
Miszalski was elected mayor in the second round of elections in April 2024, receiving 133,703 votes. His opponent, councilor and entrepreneur Łukasz Gibała, received 128,269 votes.
The Civic Coalition (KO) and the New Left hold the majority in the Krakow City Council. Opposition clubs include PiS and Krakow for Residents of Łukasz Gibała.
