The Kremlin confirmed that Donald Trump invited Vladimir Putin to join his newly announced Peace Council focused on Gaza.
Kremlin’s Response to Invitation
Yes, President Putin has indeed received an invitation through diplomatic channels to participate in the Peace Council, Kremlin spokesman Dmitrij Pieskov said on Monday, January 19. We are currently analyzing all the details of this proposal and expect to contact the American side to arrange all details, the Kremlin spokesperson added.
Composition of Trump’s Peace Council
Donald Trump had announced the creation of a Peace Council regarding the future of the Gaza Strip. The US President will head it. Its members will include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and special envoy for President Trump Steve Witkoff, as well as Jared Kushner, American businessman Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga and White House advisor Robert Gabriel. Bulgarian diplomat and former head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nikołaj Mładenow will serve as the high representative for the Gaza Strip. In this capacity, he will act as a liaison between the Peace Council and the temporary authorities.
Gaza’s Temporary Government Structure
A temporary “Palestinian technical government” has been established in the Gaza Strip as part of the peace plan signed in October by Israel and Hamas. “I support the newly established Palestinian technical government, the National Committee for Gaza Strip Administration, supported by the high representative of the Council, which will govern the Gaza Strip during the transitional period,” Donald Trump wrote. The plan provides that the Palestinian government will be monitored by the Peace Council, whose task is to oversee the management of the Gaza Strip during the transitional period.
