On the third day of Iranian retaliatory strikes, Kuwaiti air defense accidentally shot down three U.S. F-15 jets; smoke observed at U.S. embassy in Kuwait.
Embassy Issues Safety Alert
Visible smoke and fire were reported at the U.S. embassy in Kuwait following an Iranian attack, according to witnesses cited by Associated Press. Ambulances and fire trucks were seen near the diplomatic compound.
The embassy issued a statement advising citizens not to visit the facility. It noted the continued threat of rocket and drone attacks in Kuwait, urging sheltering in the lowest possible floors away from windows and avoiding outdoor movement.
Military Confirms Jet Downings
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the crash of several U.S. military aircraft near Ali Al Salem Air Base, about 10 kilometers from the embassy. Associated Press reported the incident occurred during intense Iranian shelling.
The ministry did not specify the cause, but stated the pilots safely ejected and were transported to a hospital in stable condition. CNN geolocated video footage showing a crashing jet, suggesting it might be an F-15E or F/A-18.
U.S. Command Provides Details
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the loss of three aircraft. Its statement explained the jets were “accidentally shot down by Kuwaiti air defense” during Iranian attacks involving aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones.
CENTCOM added that Kuwaiti authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
